🚡 A Day in Asahidake:
Ropeway Views, Trails & Relaxing Onsen
One of the most breathtaking day trips you can take is to Mt. Asahidake—the tallest peak in Hokkaido and part of Daisetsuzan National Park, just an hour and half away from Furano. Whether you’re a casual walker or a seasoned hiker, Asahidake offers something for everyone.

Begin your day with a ride on the Asahidake Ropeway. In just 10 minutes, you’ll reach Sugatami Station at 1,600 meters, where panoramic views of volcanic landscapes and alpine peaks await.
From here, you can choose:
-
Short Trails (1–2 hours): Gentle walks around the alpine ponds, where you’ll see steaming fumaroles, wildflowers in summer, and fiery foliage in autumn.
-
Hike to the Peak: For adventurers, continue up to the summit of Mount Asahidake for sweeping views of the Daisetsuzan range.

August and September are ideal for hiking to the peak, with stable weather and stunning alpine scenery. After mid October, snowfalls may begin covering the mountains—short trails are still possible, but peak hikes are not recommended.

End your afternoon at Asahidake Onsen to enjoy Japanese bathing, just near the ropeway station. If you prefer a hidden local hot spring loved by the locals rather than in hotel settings, Fukiage Onsen (Hakuginso) is the one, although you would need to drive a bit extra. If you’re shy - enter with your partner or family in swimwear as they have a designated swimsuit only bath. Surrounded by the nature, the mineral-rich waters are perfect for unwinding after a day on the trails.
Before returning to Furano, stop at Kamifurano Town for dinner. Be sure to try the town's specialty: Pork sagari, often enjoyed at yakiniku restaurants (BBQ) grilled to perfection and served with fresh Hokkaido vegetables. It’s the ideal hearty meal after a day of exploring.

Head back to B&B Plus+ Shooting Star and unwind in the cozy comfort of the countryside. On clear nights, you might even be treated to a sky full of sparkling stars—a magical finale to your journey. With mountain trails and soothing onsen moments, this Asahidake day trip brings together adventure, nature, and relaxation in one unforgettable experience.
